Event description

The Brazilian Network on Marine Biotechnology biotecmar.com.br is organizing a workshop on the most recent developments on Marine Biotechnology. Genomics and postgenomics, and Bioinformatics are pivotal for the development of Marine Biotechnology. In addition, interactions between microbes and viruses critically shape the marine environment and the global biosphere. Metagenomics is a powerful tool to unlock this massive uncultured microbial diversity, allowing micro-organisms to be studied in an unbiased way by bypassing the need for laboratory culturing. Metagenomics enables microbial functions and species to be surveyed in high throughput; facilitates the discovery of new organisms; and explores the dynamics of microbial ecology under changing environmental conditions. During this symposium, we will focus on the bioinformatics applied to Marine Biotechnology, interactions between marine microbes and viruses, highlighting recent work in the bioinformatic analysis, and experimental interpretation of metagenomic datasets.
